Jala Baldwin is a 21-year-old Durham native who loves animals. She’s working her way through college to be a vet tech.
To pay her way through college, get experience in animal care, and have a job that feeds her soul, Jala has started a dog-walking company, Wagging Tails Pet Care. In time, she will expand her business to include dog-sitting, grooming, and more.
This is where our incrediBULL community comes in. Together we’re going to jump-start Jala’s business. Together we’ll take her from the nascent stages of business – ideation and a few test clients – to full-fledged, booked and busy business…. IN ONE WEEK!
Let’s break this down.
What does jump-start mean?
According to the good folks at Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of jump-start is: 1: to start (an engine or vehicle) by temporary connection to an external power source (such as another vehicle’s battery)
2a: to start or restart (something) rapidly or forcefully
2b: to impart fresh or renewed energy to (something) : ENERGIZE
And what does full-fledged, book and busy business mean?
We’re defining that as Jala being a registered business with an EIN, LLC, website, booking software, a mailing list, a business network, and 5 total hours of dog walks scheduled per day Monday-Friday.
While we as a community gather to get the money and infrastructure of her business set up, Jala will be out in the community building her professional network of other pet care providers, vet clinics, groomers, etc. If you’re in the pet business make getting to know Jala your business 🙂

Our Financial Goals and WHYs:
đź’°$1000
This is our base goal. It matches what Jala has already invested into her venture and gives her just enough to cover her startup expenses.
đź’°$4500
This is our stretch goal. It covers the above AND matches one month of salary at her current night job. This provides a cushion as she transitions from working nights, walking dogs, and going to school, to being able to exclusively walk dogs around her school schedule.
đź’°$10,000
This is our big, audacious goal. It covers all of the above AND gives Jala a solid down payment on a more reliaBULL vehicle, as her vehicle is her office for her dog walking business.
đź’° Anything above and beyond $10,000 would go towards her financial cushion need to transition to one job that supports her schooling and hasten that transition.
