This is Durham. The city that tobacco and the railroad helped build. The city where a black businessman could start a company in the late 1800s that would become the largest black insurance company in the US. Only in Durham, North Carolina.
What does Durham mean to you?
Born in Durham but grew up just north of Durham in Henderson. I went to college in Raleigh, and ended up back at Duke for Graduate School. My roots in Durham are deep, I remember it as a place of Black culture, and excellence. Now I call it home.

***Here’s the thing. Durham, we love you AND we accept that you’re THE last-minute crowd. Many of you may wait until the absolute last hour – like 50% of our contestants did, ha! – to vote. HOWEVER, in this instance, you can vote once per day per email. Yay! To put the odds in your favorite photos favor vote daily for all 30 days.

PURPOSE:
We created this contest to show the world Durham beyond American Tobacco Campus, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and even the BULLoved Old Bull Sign. No shade. It’s just not right to only show a small snippet of Durham *ESPECIALLY* a city as rich in complexity, diversity, and only-in-Durhamness.
Contestants have done an incrediBULL job of showing the world Durham in its entirety from multiple perspectives.
What we got was so much more. This contest is proving to be the community connection we’re all starving for right now. To live in Durham and not be able to be *with* Durham is hard. It’s being homesick while at home. We’re grateful this contest is digitally creating a community gathering space.
